Dave T.
DVT Survivor
California

Dave, a father of two and grandfather, had surgery after breaking his left foot while gardening. Four weeks later, his leg was discolored, had swollen to twice its normal size and, according Dave, felt like “petrified wood.”
At the emergency room, the doctor performed an ultrasound and found a DVT blood clot from Dave’s knee all the way up to his chest. They treated him with anticoagulants, or blood thinners, and sent him home. But Dave was still concerned. So the next day, he went to a vascular surgeon who shared several treatment options, including a minimally invasive procedure to help clear the blood clot.
Dave went ahead with the vascular surgeon’s recommendation and was sent home three to four hours after the procedure. By the following day, the swelling started going down and normal coloration was returning to his leg. Now, Dave is back to record collecting, gardening, walking on the beach and participating in family activities with his wife, two sons and granddaughter.
